What is Component 1d?
Component 1d is demonstrating knowledge of resources. As teachers, we are provided resources and materials to teach our students, but our job as teachers requires so much more; we must have a knowledge of and an ability to use those resources. Students will often have questions and not understand a lot of information that we present them, so being able to explain and redesign sources in an effective and comprehend-able way is important. We must also be able to discern which resources are usable and applicable in the best ways so that we are presenting the best information to best further student learning, growth, and success.
Why do we need it?
There are so many different resources available to teachers; some are provided by the school, some are secured through our own searching, and others could be from other teachers' work and findings. Regardless of type, it is important that we are able to discern which will be most useful and which are not so much. The resources should also be able to challenge to students so that they are able to grow as well. Another key factor is having resources that do not just help students academically but in a personal way, whether it be socially or in ways that apply to the workforce, among other ways.
What are the elements?
There are three elements that make up component 1d: resources for classroom use, resources to extend content knowledge and pedagogy, and resources for students. Resources for classroom use means having materials that parallel with learning outcomes; this important because we should teaching the most up-to-date tools and methods that are able to help students. Resources to extend content knowledge and pedagogy means that we as teachers are also keeping current in readings of latest findings, research, theories, and different techniques to use in our classroom and while teaching students. This helpful in trying to help and teach students so they are able to learn and understand the material. Resources for students means providing materials that are applicable to them as learners; for example this could mean that in your math class, you provide readings that apply math to real-world situations or to different topics that interest students. All of these resources together make proper and great use of resources to help students have the best opportunity to learn and grow.
