What is Pinterest?
Pinterest is a global website that allows people to discover, save, and share ideas. These ideas can take many different forms: from recipes to clothes, shoes, art, and more; each idea is represented by a "pin": an image that includes a description and a link back to the image's source online. These are shared from all over the web, and Pinterest has become a staple in the world of social media. Now, how does Pinterest apply to education? Pinterest allows teachers to share different ideas with others and collaborate on ways to improve, change, and learn from each other; some of these ideas can include craft ideas, models for learning, pictures, quotes, maps of learning processes, new activities, and more. Pinterest really allows for collaboration and communication to take the information and resources that we present to our students to a whole new level. Creating and sharing on Pinterest is also so easy and free.
What did I create?
I have included four of some of my Pinterests boards. The first two are titled, "Models for Teaching" and "Ed Tech Tools". I created the models for teaching board for ideas and pictures that feature different models that I can use to implement into my classroom; these models are really useful because many of them feature different ways to implement Danielson's Framework into the classroom or different solutions to problems that can occur in the classroom. These models are also good for being able to manage time, be productive, or different ways to keep the engagement of students. I created the ed tech tools board to share and learn about new technologies that are out there for use in the classroom. Because we are in a world surrounded by technology, there is a need for the development of skills using and a knowledge of technology. These tech tools not only help develop those skills in students, but they also allow for new ways to teach material and allow for an ease of the process, too. There is are so many new and exciting ways to be creative with technology, and I want to be able to provide those opportunities and experiences for my students.
The next two boards I have included are titled, "Students and Relationships", and "Learning Process and the Brain". I created the students and relationships board for ideas that involve ways that involve ways to engage students, build intrinsic motivation, different activities that students can build based off of their interests, different ways to build relationships with students, and more. This board can be really helpful in building rapport and trust with students, as well as finding engaging ways to create and involve for students interests. The last board I have included is about how the brain works and how students think, learn, and develop. This board is really helpful in understanding students from a cognitive and biological standpoint from psychology; the brain is an amazing creation and has so many cool aspects. I find this board the most interesting and engaging.
Application to Component 4e
Pinterest is a tool that is extremely helpful when looking at Danielson's Framework implementation. One element that it specifically applies to is component 4e: growing and developing professionally. Pinterest allows for teachers to collaborate on, learn about, and explore new ideas as they pertain to the educational field. By making use of this tool, you are able to provide some of the best and most up-to-date activities and resources. These allow for the best chance of success and learning for all learners. This collaboration allows build your network of resources and contacts that provide a support group for you to have to gain feedback and insight.
Artifact reflection
How can I use Pinterest to better my classroom? Pinterest is a wonderful tool for you as teacher to gain new ideas that you can implement into the classroom. When I am a teacher, I can use Pinterest to find new activities, different approaches to materials, new mindsets on how to create, and more. By using Pinterest, I can then use the knowledge gained to further student learning and allow for the students to develop skills in new ways and create using new tools.
What do I like about using Pinterest? I love collaborating and "pinning" on Pinterest. It is not only fun but insightful to me as an educator. I have access to an entire network of teachers that may be going through the same situations as I am. This can be helpful because it shows that I am not alone and that I have an entire support group at my fingertips that I can learn from and collaborate with. These skills that I am using, I can then pass on to my students and allow for the best situations for them to learn.
How does Pinterest relate to Growth Mindset? Pinterest and growth mindset can really go hand-in-hand. By having a positive mental attitude and a desire for growth as an educator, I really can grow and learn from the countless educators on Pinterest. The growth that can happen for me from Pinterest is incredible. I hope to gain as much as I can from Pinterest and truly allow myself to grow as an educator.
