Domain 2 is all about the classroom environment. What type of atmosphere do you want to create in your classroom? One of chaos and disorder or one of order and organization? As teachers, we all have different ideas and visions for how what we want in our classroom and what type of environment. So many ideas and elements go into the creation of the classroom and its environment. Domain 2 really allows for the enhancement and inclusion of those ideas and imagination to better the opportunity for students; management of student behavior, establishing a culture for learning, organization of physical space, and establish relationships and rapport with students are all essential to the classroom and domain 2. If we create an environment that is unhealthy for students because of disorganization, it is unsafe, not geared to learning, or disengaging, then we have not done our job as teachers.
What are the components in Domain 1?
Domain 2 has so many applications to the field; whether it is technologies or resources, or the models we use and follow, or even how we as teachers design our classroom or create the environment of learning, there is a reoccurring need for the domain. In my contact and relationships with teachers in the field, one stands out to me. This teacher really believes that how we structure our classroom and space is really important to the success of the class. This teacher specifically implements the domain by including a setup of the classroom that engages the students minds and allows for the best use of imagination, technology, resources, and tools. This teacher also finds it important to implement the students iPads into the class, as they are 1:1; the use of iPads not only shows the use of tech, but making the best of what is provided to enhance student learning. To see and understand how it used in this teacher's classroom is important to show that the domain is important and essential for all teachers.
